So the Nintendo press conference at E3 was a pretty big disappointment. Nothing was really surprising at all. It was all stuff most people had expected.
The one piece of good news: No DS hardware redesign. That's a rumor that's been floating around for quite some time, but not a word was said about it.
I'm glad; it didn't need it. I'm sticking with my vanilla model (that is, the original version).
Except it kind of stinks because they said almost nothing at all about the DS, period. I really like that thing. I mean, the Wii is cool, yes. But I've had my DS longer. And I have better games for it (which makes it that much cooler, since it's all... Big. Yet also... small?).
Anyhow, the point is, there was nothing really interesting.
Animal Crossing Wii. Well, duh.
"Motion Plus." Am I the only one who saw that coming? I mean, maybe not that specifically. But they'd be crazy to make a new console. Yet the need something for people to buy, hardwarewise, or they won't make much money. Thus, a micro-upgrade. Not really surprising at all, and not all that interesting to me; looks like more opportunities for non-games and gimicky stuff. Maybe there will actually be good, cool things that come from it. But that probably won't happen for a while, and it probably won't happen very often, either.
Wii Music. I'm pretty sure this was promised, or at least very obvious, from day one.
"WiiSpeak." It's about time.
...And there really wasn't anything else that was notable. Nothing big third-party-wise, either. Just stuff we already knew about. We just know more now.
The sad thing, though (besides the fact that there was virtually no DS news, I mean), is that, if they had put enough effort in, they could have talked about a ton of cool stuff we know we're getting.
See, they said in interviews afterwards that they are in fact working on a new Pikmin game AND a new Zelda for Wii (and Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at sequels for New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy). I'm assuming they just aren't far enough along that they have anything to show for it, but... STILL.
Pikmin has always sounded cool to me, but I've never played it. So I think it's cool that they're making a third one, but I don't have much to say about it.
But Zelda? YAY!
Now, excuse me while I rant about the phrase "real Zelda."
Most people are going to hear they're making a new Zelda game for Wii, and they're going to say, "Finally! The real Zelda game we've been waiting for!"
See, I've heard (=read on the Internet) things like "When are we going to get a REAL Zelda game, anyway?" way, way too much. Even once is too much, really.
Because by "real" they just mean a game with a more serious tone than, say, Phantom Hourglass. It's like they're denying that game exists, which is stupid, because it was amazing. But they see the franchise all wrong. They want this big, fancy, serious sort of game. I say that gets stale and boring. In my opinion, the real spirit and flavor of the Zelda series shines brightest in the games like Phantom Hourglass, Wind Waker, The Minish Cap, and the Oracle games -- in other words, the "sillier" ones. I find them much more entertaining and engrossing on the whole.
Not that I didn't like Ocarina of Time, of course. It was amazing. But, underneath all the seriousness, it had quite a bit of lightheartedness to it as well.
And, no, I still have not played Twilight Princess (or at least not extensively). I don't really plan to, actually. But I've discussed this before.
Anyway, my point: I would much rather they made a WW-esque Zelda than a TP-esque one.
And I think there's a good chance of that happening, because apparently the DS team is helping out, or something like that.
Anyway, enough rambling about video games!
Oh, just kidding. I have nothing else to talk about. :P
Sorry. I really do want to post more. But I have little to post about.
Oh, my brother is home from Japan, but I'm sure everyone knows that already.
He brought back lots of neat presents. And candy. And pictures.
Also, I am at home, not watching TDK.
It's sad.
