I didn't even give you a fun little distraction yesterday. Shame on me.
Well, I haven't found anything new lately and I don't want to dig around in my computer to find something else right now. But there are several games I have links to in the side now that I haven't told you about, so I'll do one of those.
Jumper 3
This is a fairly simple and traditional platformer, but it's a lot of fun to play because you have a few different characters (or mutated forms of the same character, or something) to play as, and they each have different abilities. So far it's seemed like it's possible to beat every level with every character, but most levels are obviously a lot easier with someone specific.
Plus, you can spend the coins you collect on cool hats!
So there was this thing going around on Facebook.
You know. Like those dumb email type things that go around. Except now with Facebook, they've branched into all sorts of crazy forms.
With this one, the idea is that you assemble an album cover for some imaginary music group from content that is generated completely at random. I liked the idea so much, I did ten!
I might be crazy, but at least I know Jeremy is also crazy. He thinks it's entertaining, too.
Seriously. It's even more fun than it sounds; you should try it too:
There are many ways you could get stuff for it, but this is what I've seen people doing and it worked well for me.
1. For your band name, go to Wikipedia and click "random article".
I didn't always go with the first thing I saw; often it would have been dumb for one reason or another (it was a person, it was a band already, etc.). Anyway, it's crazy how plausible most of it seems as an actual band name. After all, it does seem that at the top of at least 10% of Wikipedia articles, it says "______ is also an alternative rock band based out of _____." OK, probably not ten percent. But still, it does seem to happen a lot. Moving on.
2. Get a random quotation here. Grab a handful of words and make it your album title.
The thing on Facebook said to take the last four or five words of the last quotation, but I pretty much ignored that because it wouldn't have worked too well all the time. I did try to use something from one of the last couple quotes on the page, though; after all, if you're too selective, it sort of ruins the point.
3. Go to Flickr and look at "interesting photos from the last seven days". Here the instructions said to take the third picture on the page, but again, I didn't follow that too strictly (because sometimes it wouldn't have worked as an album cover very well).
Now that you have your names and picture, put them all together (I used the GIMP) and see what you can come up with. I used a bit of license and edited some of the pictures a little, but sometimes it worked to use the raw image, more or less (I always cropped them to a good square size, though).
So here's the ones I did:

The best name is definitely "Mount Kupe Bush Shrike", although "Diocese of Banja Luka" is a reasonably close second. "Sherman Antitrust Act" is probably third.
Anyway, I'm afraid to put any more awesomeness into this post, so I'm going to have to end it here.

Woa, I'm soo going to do this album cover thing. Best idea I've heard of in years... not that I'm that old.
It is kinda cool

ROFL>!
the sherman antitrust act...so extremely subtle..
wow.
what really scary...is how close these resemble real bands...like just super random titles..and random albums..
btw...have u seen that label people in a pic thing going around on facebook?
I swear...facebook totally pwns email as far as passing worthless ideas along..
Yeah, I've seen it.
I wish I could remember where those characters came from! I know they've been relabeled, but I don't remember what their names or whatever were originally, and I don't remember where they came from either. I seem to recall they were children's books, but it could also be other stuff or be something entirely different.
I just don't remember...
Heh. Those are actually really funny.
